Items to do when ....

A stomacher or a headpiece of some kind is just too easy.

If the design and size allowed I would try for stockings (ladies only wore them knee-high for centuries) or some other kind of shoe adornment.

I always take my crocheting along with me. I have a backpack that I carry with me where ever I go. I crochet with sewing thread and a vey small hook. I keep my hook in a pen I have taken the ink out of and then my thread is in plastic bags. I carry this with me to work so if I have down time I can crochet.

Thanks,Cheryl P

I so completely misread this one. I blame the dogs.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother and hope she's doing well.

I have a small bag that contains my miniature embroidery projects so all I have to do is grab it and go. That's a project that can be picked up and set down without too much worry about interruption.

And it generally brings people over to see what I'm doing so I can chat and get more people interested in the hobby.

I have a small soft-sided square carrier that my husband got for renewing some hunting magazines.

I always take a cloth bag with me filled with items needed to work on whatever project I'm trying to complete at the moment.

If I have some time in a plane, or waiting room of doctor for example, I take with my mini embroidery, littel bag with supplies in. If I spend some time in a place wher I an settle for a few hours on a table, i usually carry somr little pieces of leather and fabric, a tiny bottle of glue, scissors and tootpicks and I make some littel leather bags, purses, etC..

I never know when I will have downtime away from my studio. So I always always have a piece of clay and a small sculpting tool,in a plastic bag in my pocketbook. I never need a lot of clay . I don`t try to sculpt an whole head. there usually are too many distractions around me.I do what I did when I first started sculpting. I make a ball , look around me,find a face , and make a nose or mouth or eye or what ever feature I feel I need to practice . Then I make another of the same feature. The most noses I got on a lump of clay were six while waiting for my hubby at a doctor`s appointment. I call these quick sculpts . Sculpt Sketches.
It works for me . And I see a variety of noses, in this case, all in one place.

I have a small sketch pad with me so I can do any kind of quick design sketchs or draw out some ideas that I want to follow up on later when I am at home. You often get ideas when you least expect them, and/or see something in a store that sparks an idea. If you have a small pad that you can carry in your purse, then you can take a minuet and do the quick sketch.
I spent 2 years in and out of hospital waiting rooms with 3 family members all having problems. I made a lot of silk roses in lots of colors and sizes. They were handy to have when I had time for dolls. Once when my Mom broke her hip, I did 100 tiny pink bows for a roundtable workshop. It's a great icebreaker in a waiting room.
Dana, I have brought along premo for sculpting and just played, but I keep a tote bag full of basic supplies for taking along at a moments notice, most the time I bring tools for making my bonsai but can quickly throw some extra supplies in there for other crafts as well. I just make sure in case I need to use glue to take along wipes or a baggie with a wet paper towel or washcloth. So you could bring material and doll body and dress while sitting. I seldom go anywhere and sit and do nothing. If nothing else bring along some of your reference books to go through along with a notebook to make notes on ideas you come up with while going through the book.

Well i haven't entirely laundhed myself with the doll scene yet but I can still answer this one.

Always with me when I travel are my camera for recording things that are awesome some of which will end up in my mini work.

Always with me a paper and pen for sketching would be outfits e.g when I was on jury service recently I made numerous drawings of judge and prosecutor's wigs and robes + notes on how to translate this into one of my knitted dolls ( not yet done). Also made notes and sketches on a bag one of the other jurors carried. Not only good for minis but stops one being irritated by some of the waffle that goes on before you get down to business.

Also always with me my little carry case of crochet hooks ( smaller than a glasses case) that I have had for 30+ years and a zip lock bag containing a small box (with scissors, safety in and a couple of sewing needles in a cloth) plus a reel of thread and usually a photo copy sheet of one of my patterns or a small notebook to scribble down one as I work it out.

I often have "scraps" of time to work on minis - while waiting for my kids to do their activities for example. I have one box or tin always ready to grab and take along.

Usually it is a stitchery project, so the box contains everything I need - the item being stitched, the pattern, an extra
